Government Official States MoD Examining Security Risk from Vehicles from China, as Staff Told to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

An defense official has revealed that the MoD is currently examining the possible threats associated with Chinese-made cars, while personnel have been instructed to refrain from talking about classified information in all cars.

Safety Guidance for MoD Personnel

In a recently aired appearance on LBC, a defence minister addressed reports that MoD staff have been instructed not to talk about classified information while riding in Chinese cars.

The minister explained that the MoD is “examining” cars from China within its vehicle pools, however stressed that security is a issue in every modern vehicles.

We have a collection of tens of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
But regardless of if you’re driving a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our people is not to plug Ministry of Defence devices into their vehicle, not to have discussions at a secret classification in any vehicle, because of the increasing risks of eavesdropping that exist in every single automobile, to restrict those confidential conversations in secure locations. That’s a wise and sensible thing for everyone concerned about safety.

When it was suggested that it would be wise for the ministry to cease using all Chinese vehicles, Pollard responded: That is precisely what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Wider Security Context

The revelation follows claims from Norway and Denmark have warned the United Kingdom to the existence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made electric buses, which could enable the Chinese government to disable public transport and bring chaos to transport systems.

Additionally, a Russia intelligence vessel has been directing lasers at RAF pilots, described as a “highly dangerous” action by defence officials.

This broader security situation underscores the significance of strong protocols and caution in every areas of official operations, from transport use to communication practices.
